inclusive BVI yacht charter is priced very differently from a motor yacht operating on a charter fee plus expenses.

There isn’t one yacht type that is best for everyone.
If you love sailing and want the classic Caribbean experience, choose a luxury sailing catamaran.
If your priorities are space, stability and getting around the islands quickly, consider a luxury power catamaran.
If you want the traditional superyacht experience with a larger professional crew and a very high level of service, consider a luxury motor yacht.
And if your goal is simply to arrive, unpack and have virtually everything handled for you, an all-inclusive luxury crewed yacht charter is probably the place to begin.
Why the BVI Is One of the World’s Great Yacht Charter Destinations
- There are beautiful cruising destinations throughout the Caribbean, but the geography of the British Virgin Islands is almost tailor-made for yacht vacations
- The islands are close together, with ‘line of sight’ navigation – that matters more than first-time charter guests sometimes realize. Moving to a new island can take a little as 20-30 minutes, rather than many hours in other parts of the world
- On a traditional vacation, changing islands can mean packing, checking out of a hotel, going to an airport or ferry terminal, hauling luggage and checking into another hotel. What Does “Luxury Yacht Charter” Actually Mean?
Luxury is a surprisingly broad term in the charter industry.
At one end of the market, a beautiful modern 50-foot sailing catamaran with private ensuite cabins, air conditioning, a captain and chef can absolutely qualify as a luxury yacht.
At the other end are 100-foot-plus motor yachts and super yachts with large professional crews, elaborate master suites, beach clubs, Jacuzzis and extensive collections of water toys.
Both may appear when you search for BVI luxury yacht charters, but they are entirely different vacations — and can have entirely different price points.
We generally encourage guests to think about luxury in four categories.
The Yacht
How much space do you want? How large should the cabins be? Are large outdoor areas important? Do you care about a flybridge?
The Crew
Do you want a captain and chef, or are you looking for the service level provided by a larger crew that might also include a stewardess, deckhand or engineer?
The Amenities
Water toys, e-foils, sea scooters, paddle boards, large tenders, entertainment systems and other amenities vary significantly from yacht to yacht.
The Experience
Some guests define luxury as formal service.
Others define luxury as eating breakfast barefoot on the aft deck while looking at an empty Caribbean beach.
Neither is wrong.
The important part is matching the yacht to your version of luxury.
What Is an All-Inclusive BVI Yacht Charter?
An all-inclusive yacht charter in the BVI generally combines the yacht, professional crew, meals, drinks and many ordinary operating expenses into one charter rate.
For travelers who want a low-stress vacation, this is one of the simplest ways to experience the islands.
Your captain handles navigation and operation of the yacht.
Your chef provisions for your group and prepares your meals.
Your crew helps organize your itinerary and watersports.
Instead of spending your vacation thinking about groceries, navigation and meal preparation, you can concentrate on enjoying the BVI.

This is one of the most important decisions you’ll make.
Do not choose based entirely on length.
A yacht’s beam, layout, number of cabins, crew spaces and outdoor areas can have as much impact on your vacation as the number printed beside its name.

Luxury Sailing Catamarans in the BVI
A luxury sailing catamaran charter in the BVI is perhaps the most recognizable version of a Caribbean yacht vacation.
Modern sailing catamarans combine the romance of sailing with substantially more living space than traditional monohull sailboats.
Because the yacht has two hulls, much of the main living area spans the space between them.
That can create large salons, wide aft cockpits, spacious forward lounging areas, multiple en-suite guest cabins and flybridge or upper helm areas.
What Size Sailing Catamaran Should You Charter?
A catamaran in the 50-foot range can work beautifully for several couples or a family.
Move into the 60- to 70-foot category and the change isn’t simply additional length.
Larger yachts can provide substantially more beam, cabin space, headroom, outdoor entertaining areas and additional crew.
Some larger sailing catamarans can feel more like floating villas than traditional sailboats.

Luxury Power Catamarans in the BVI
Power catamarans have become increasingly popular with BVI charter guests because they combine some of the best qualities of a catamaran with the speed and convenience of a motor yacht.
A luxury power catamaran has two hulls like a sailing catamaran but eliminates the mast, boom, sails and much of the related sailing equipment.
That gives yacht designers enormous flexibility.
Why Do Power Catamarans Feel So Large?
One word: beam. ‘Beam’ is the nautical word for ‘width.’
Catamarans are wide.
That width translates directly into usable interior and exterior space.
A power catamaran can have an enormous salon, aft cockpit, foredeck and flybridge relative to its overall length.
That is why comparing a 60-foot power catamaran to a 60-foot traditional motor yacht based only on length can be misleading. A 60′ motor yacht typically has a beam of 14-18′ whereas a 60′ catamaran will often have a 30-35′ beam. That means you have more than twice as much interior space and volume as on a similar length motor yacht!
The Advantage of Speed
Although the islands are close together, faster cruising changes how much you can comfortably experience during a week.
A faster yacht may allow you to snorkel one destination in the morning, stop somewhere else for lunch and still arrive at your evening anchorage with several hours left to swim or go ashore.
A sailing catamaran will typically travel under sail or sail with engines around 6-9 knots. A power catamaran will generally motor around 9-15 knots. Motor Yachts typically have the largest engines and travel at the highest speed, normally 10-20 knots.
Who Should Choose a Power Catamaran?
A BVI luxury power catamaran charter can be especially attractive for:
- Families
- Multiple couples traveling together
- Guests who aren’t interested in sailing
- Groups wanting maximum space
- Guests wanting large flybridges
- Travelers who want to visit more destinations
- Motor-yacht owners accustomed to power boating
- Groups that value stability
For many travelers, a power catamaran provides one of the best combinations of space, speed and luxury available in the BVI.
Luxury Motor Yacht Charters in the BVI
Traditional luxury motor yachts provide another experience altogether.
This category ranges tremendously in size. Motor Yachts for charter in the British Virgin Islands typically start around 70′ and the majority are 80-130′.
At the upper end of the market and size, typically 150-250′, a motor yacht can offer the type of amenities and service most travelers associate with the superyacht lifestyle.
Depending upon size and design, features may include full-beam master suites, multiple salons, formal dining, large sundecks, Jacuzzis, beach clubs, sophisticated tenders and extensive water toys.
The Primary Advantage: Service and Amenities
As yachts become larger, there is room not only for more amenities but also for more crew. More crew can significantly change the service level and experience on board.
Instead of a captain and chef alone, a yacht might have a captain, chef, stewardess, deckhand and engineer. They all work together to make sure you have a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The Primary Tradeoff: Cost
Traditional motor yachts generally consume more fuel, particularly as size and cruising speed increase.
They also require more crew and are more expensive to operate and maintain.
That is reflected in charter pricing. Motor yachts are typically the most expensive of all the luxury crewed charter options.
For guests looking for a true high-end yachting experience, however, a traditional motor yacht can be extraordinary.
How Much Does a BVI Luxury Yacht Charter Cost?
There is no meaningful single “average” price for BVI luxury yacht charters because there is such an enormous difference between yacht categories.
Price is influenced by:
- Yacht size
- Yacht type
- Age
- Builder
- Number of cabins
- Number of crew
- Season
- Holiday dates
- Amenities
- Water toys
- Sailing versus power
- All-inclusive versus plus-expenses pricing
Sailing Catamaran Pricing
The British Virgin Islands are known as the ‘sailing capital of the world’ and the majority of the fully-crewed yachts are sailing catamarans. Virtually all the catamarans are set with 3-4 cabins, for 6-8 guests. Rates for an all-inclusive sailing catamaran charter for 6-8 guests start around $25,000-$30,000/wk all-inclusive. The are a wide variety of great options in the $30,000-60,000/wk price point. If you need 5 cabins, for a group of 10, there are far fewer yachts with this configuration, so rates are higher. For a group of 10 guests, rates for a luxury crewed charter start around $40,000/wk all-inclusive, with most options priced from $50,000-$70,000/wk all-inclusive. Krazy Kat is a great example of a very popular sailing catamaran for 8 guests, and it is $42,900/wk all-inclusive. Perfect Landing is the same model catamaran as Krazy Kat, but it can accommodate 10 guests, so the weekly rate is $52,900/wk all-inclusive.
Power Catamaran Pricing
Although there are hundreds of luxury catamarans for charter, there are a few dozen fully-crewed, powercats available for luxury charter in BVI. Given their larger engines and higher purchase price, the luxury power catamaran start around $40,000/wk all-inclusive for a group of 6-8 guests. Forever Young is a 55′ luxury power catamaran that can accommodate 6 guests, and the weekly all-inclusive rate is $42,500/wk. Omakase is a larger powercats at 68′, and they can also accommodate 6 guests. Since they offer more space, their weekly rate is higher, around $55,000/wk all-inclusive. For a group of 8 guests, Mare Blu is a very popular option starting around $42,900/wk and C’est La Vie is newer and larger, at $57,900/wk. If you are looking for powercats in the 80’+ range, they start around $80,000/wk and increase to $120,000/wk all-inclusive for ones that can accommodate 10 guests.
Motor Yacht Pricing
Similar to the powercats, there are only a handful of luxury motor yachts available for charter in the BVI. Given their higher pricing, there are fewer guests who charter them so there is less inventory available. Most of the motor yachts price as the charter rate + ‘APA’ – Advanced Provisioning Allowance. The APA is typically an additional 30-40% of the charter rate, and it is used to cover the cost of provisions, alcohol, fuel and permits on charter. Motor Yacht charters typically start around $60,000/wk + APA and most of the yachts are priced between $80,000-$130,000/wk + APA. One very popular motor yacht in BVI is Angeleyes, as they are unique in that they can accommodate 10 guests and they do offer all-inclusive pricing that is around $100,000/wk all-inclusive.
Don’t Compare Charter Prices Without Comparing Inclusions
One $50,000 advertised charter and another $50,000 advertised charter may not cost the same amount at the end of the week.
One may be all-inclusive and the other may require an APA to cover provisioning, fuel, beverages, dockage and other expenses to be paid separately.
Always ask:
What is the estimated total cost of this charter for my specific group?
That is far more useful than comparing published base rates.
What Is APA on a Yacht Charter?
Larger motor yachts and some luxury yachts operate on a charter fee plus expenses rather than an all-inclusive rate.
These charters often use an Advance Provisioning Allowance, usually referred to as ‘APA.’ The APA is typically an additional 30-40% of the weekly charter rate.
The APA is money that is used to cover the expense account for costs associated with your particular charter. The APA is used for items such as; fuel, food, beverages, alcohol, dockage, local expenses and special requests.
The captain accounts for the expenses during the charter, and on the last day of the charter they will go over all the expenses with you. If there is any portion of the APA that is not used, it will be refunded to you. If there is a shortfall in what was used and what was provided, then you will provided the additional funds before you disembark.
This is different from an all-inclusive charter, where most expenses are already bundled into the published price.
Neither system is necessarily better.
They serve different yacht markets. Sailing and power catamarans typically price using the all-inclusive model and motor yachts normally price using the + APA mode.
What Is It Actually Like to Have a Private Captain and Chef?
This is one of the biggest differences between chartering a yacht and renting a vacation home.
Your crew doesn’t simply maintain the yacht, they are key to creating your incredible, once-in-a-lifetime charter experience!
Before arrival, guests will complete a very detailed Preference Sheet covering things such as:
- Food preferences
- Allergies
- Dietary requirements
- Favorite beverages
- Preferred wines and alcohol brands
- Children’s preferences
- Activities
- Special occasions – birthdays, anniversaries etc.
- Places you’d like to visit
Your captain uses your interests — together with weather, sea conditions and local considerations — to develop an itinerary that is completely personalized for you individual charter.
Your chef provisions specifically for your group, and will create a menu that is tailored around your individual requests and preferences.
That personalization is one of the reasons guests frequently become attached to their charter crews and return year after year.
What Do You Eat on an All-Inclusive Yacht Charter?
One of the misconceptions about yacht charters is that the food will resemble ordinary “boat food.” On a quality luxury crewed charter, that could not be further from reality.
Many professional charter chefs produce restaurant-quality meals in remarkably sophisticated yacht galleys. In the British Virgin Islands, your meals on board will almost always exceed the quality and creativity of what you would eat at a restaurant on shore.
Additionally, you are able to dine in a different location for every meal during your charter:
- A day might begin with eggs benedict and freshly baked crossiants on the aft deck while overlooking the Caves at Norman Island.
- Lunch might be fresh mahi burgers, salads and tropical fruit after your snorkeling session
- Dinner is a multi-course meal under the stars on the aft deck, including surf and turf of Anegada lobster and a coconut rum cream pie
The best part is, all the specifics of the menu are designed around your group.
That is one of the major differences between a yacht and a resort restaurant. At a resort, no matter how high-end and luxurious, the restaurant is cooking for hundreds of people. You are still restricted to ordering what is on the menu.
The chef on your yacht is cooking for you. Every dish is created based on your preferences, likes and dislikes.
What Water Toys Are Available?
Modern luxury yachts increasingly function as private watersports clubs.
Equipment varies significantly, but luxury all-inclusive charter yachts include a wide variety of the following:
- Paddleboards
- Kayaks
- Snorkeling gear
- Floating mats
- Sea scooters
- Water slides
- Water skis
- Towable toys
- E-foils
- Fishing gear
- Inflatable docks
- Large tenders
This is another reason we encourage guests not to choose a yacht from interior photographs alone. If you are traveling with teenagers who want to be in the water from breakfast until sunset, the yacht’s recreation package could be more important than the marble in its bathrooms!

Norman Island
Norman Island is associated with centuries of pirate legends and is a wonderful place to begin a charter.
The famous caves and Indians provide excellent snorkeling, and the protected waters make it an appealing first overnight destination.
It is also home to the infamous ‘Willy-T‘, the floating pirate bar that can be quite colorful in the evenings.
Peter Island
Peter Island offers beautiful beaches, protected bays and opportunities to swim, snorkel and enjoy the yacht’s water toys.
Little Harbor on Peter Island is a favorite spot to swim and snorkel with sea turtles in the BVI.
Cooper Island
Cooper Island combines snorkeling and beautiful water with a charming shoreside beach-club atmosphere.
Cooper is also home to an amazing rum bar that has more than 400 rums in stock for visitors to sample!
The Baths, Virgin Gorda
The Baths is one of the BVI’s iconic natural attractions.
Enormous granite boulders create pools, grottos and pathways run along the coast. Guests can hike the trails that run through, around and under the boulders and take a photo in the famous ‘cathedral’ room.
North Sound
Virgin Gorda’s North Sound offers an entirely different atmosphere, and it is known as the ‘billionaire’s playground’ of the British Virgin Islands. North Sound is home to some of BVI’s most famous and iconic destinations including; Bitter End Yacht Club, Oil Nut Bay Resort and Saba Rock.
Anegada
Anegada is the geographical outlier of the BVI.
Instead of volcanic hills, the island is low and flat….the palm trees are the highest point! Anegada is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world.
It is famous for beaches, Caribbean lobster and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Jost Van Dyke
Jost Van Dyke delivers quintessential Caribbean beach-bar culture and is home to some of the most famous waterfront establishments in the BVI.

Is a Luxury Yacht Charter Good for Families?
Yes, absolutely!
A yacht can be one of the easiest ways for several generations of a family to vacation together.
Instead of coordinating different hotel rooms, restaurants and transportation, everyone is able to stay together and yet still enjoy the specific foods and activities each person enjoys.
Children can swim, snorkel and use water toys. Parents can relax nearby. Grandparents can participate as much or as little as they want.
Meals are customized to each person in the family.
The important consideration is choosing the correct yacht that can meet the needs of each person in the family.
A family with children may want to prioritize:
- Easy water access
- Safe deck areas
- Plenty of shaded space
- Cabin arrangements near parents
- Appropriate water toys
- Family-friendly crew
- Flexible meals
If you have kids and Teenagers on board, be sure to confirm the water toys on board. Teenagers may care more about e-foils and Wi-Fi than enormous staterooms.
Are BVI Yacht Charters Good for Groups of Couples?
Catamarans can be particularly well suited to groups of couples because many have multiple comfortable en-suite cabins, and each person has their own, individual space.
But look carefully at the actual layout.
“Four cabins” doesn’t necessarily mean four equal cabins. Sometimes one hull is a large, primary cabin and then 3 guest cabins are all divided in the other hull.
Ask about bed size, cabin size, storage, headroom, en-suite bathrooms, natural light and differences between the primary cabin and guest cabins.
When four couples are splitting the cost, relatively equal accommodations can matter considerably.
When Is the Best Time to Charter a Yacht in the BVI?
There is no universally perfect month. The best period depends on what you value most and when you are able to travel.
Winter is especially popular because travelers from colder climates are looking for Caribbean sunshine and warmth, since they don’t have that at home.
Christmas and New Year’s are particularly high-demand charter weeks, and they are the most popular and busiest weeks of the year.
Spring can offer beautiful cruising conditions and remains popular.
Summer can provide a quieter island experience and attractive opportunities, although anyone traveling during Caribbean hurricane season should understand the associated weather considerations and applicable charter policies. Many shore side restaurants and bars close from Aug – Oct as this is peak hurricane season. Most yachts are unavailable for charter over these months as well.
If you need a specific yacht, multiple cabins or holiday dates, book earlier rather than later. Holiday weeks on the most popular yachts tend to book 9-12 months in advance.
How Far in Advance Should You Book?
The best yacht isn’t simply the yacht with the most impressive brochure.
It is the yacht that fits your dates, guest count, cabin requirements, budget, activities, preferred yacht type and service expectations.
The earlier you begin your search, the larger the available selection. It is recommended to start looking 6-12 months ahead of your desired charter date. Many yachts will only book 12 months ahead of the charter date. If you are looking for a charter 2-3 years from now you can find out general pricing, but most yachts will not consider accepting a booking that far in advance.
Holiday charters and highly sought-after yachts should normally be considered well ahead of travel.
If your dates are flexible, your options increase considerably.
How to Choose the Right BVI Luxury Yacht Charter

Be candid about the budget.
A good charter specialist should not simply show you the most expensive yacht available.

Do Crewed Yachts Have Wi-Fi?
Many modern luxury charter yachts provide internet service, although connectivity and speed can vary.
Do Luxury Yachts Have Air Conditioning?
Yes, modern luxury crewed yachts have AC, and they will run it through the evening to ensure guests are comfortable.
Can We Eat at Restaurants Ashore?
Yes. An all-inclusive yacht charter does not mean you are required to eat every meal aboard. You can always chose to enjoy any meals ashore you would like. Most guests have at least one meal ashore during their charter.
Is Crew Gratuity Included?
Generally, crew gratuity is separate from the charter fee. The standard, recommended gratuity is 15-20% of the charter rate. You are welcome to offer the crew a higher amount for a job well done! You can bring gratuity in cash, check or you can send a wire in advance of the charter and it can be released when you authorize. Many crews are not from the US, so they do not always have the ability to accept gratuity via Venmo, Zelle or any other cash aps.
