If you're considering a luxury power catamaran for a BVI bareboat charter, the Aquila 545, Aventura 50 and Aventura 56 are three excellent options for larger groups. All offer comfortable accommodations, impressive outdoor living areas and the freedom to explore the British Virgin Islands aboard your own private yacht.
But although these yachts are similar in overall style, their cabin configurations, interior living spaces and outdoor amenities are quite different.
At Virgin Charter Yachts, we offer all three models in our bareboat fleet, including several different configurations of the Aventura 50. As a family-owned charter company based at Nanny Cay, Tortola, since 1996, we help guests compare the actual yachts available rather than relying solely on generic manufacturer specifications.
Our Aquila 545, Southern Cross, offers a spectacular main-deck primary suite, substantially more interior living space than the Aventura 50, and an exceptionally spacious flybridge.
Our five-cabin Aventura 50s, La Bella Vita and Yachti By Nature, offer five private double-bed cabins, making them especially appealing for five adult couples. Their walk-through salons also provide convenient access between the aft cockpit and forward lounging areas.
Our six-cabin Aventura 50, Unwinding, accommodates up to twelve guests in six private double-bed cabins, making it a particularly unusual option for six couples or larger families.
And our Aventura 56s, Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired, offer five double-bed cabins in a larger yacht, with their most distinctive feature being the expansive aft beach club and platform that creates an exceptional outdoor living area right at the water.
For families who prioritize interior comfort and a luxurious primary suite, we would often recommend the Aquila 545. For five couples, the five-cabin Aventura 50 or Aventura 56 are excellent choices. And for six couples or groups of twelve, Unwinding offers a rare six-double-cabin layout.
Here's how we would compare these power catamarans when helping guests choose the right yacht for a week in the BVI.
Aquila 545 vs Aventura 50 vs Aventura 56: Quick Comparison
Although these yachts share many of the features that make power catamarans popular in the BVI, their layouts and guest capacities differ significantly.

| Best suited for | Families and mixed groups | Five couples | Six couples or groups of twelve | Five couples who prioritize outdoor living |
The most important difference is the sleeping arrangement. Southern Cross is particularly appealing to families who want a luxurious main-deck primary suite and can make use of the bunk cabin. La Bella Vita and Yachti By Nature are excellent choices for five couples, while Unwinding offers the unusual advantage of six private double-bed cabins for up to twelve guests.
For five couples seeking a larger yacht with impressive outdoor entertaining areas, Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired offer the Aventura 56's standout beach-club experience.
For more information about choosing the right number and type of cabins, see our BVI Power Catamaran Group Size Guide.
Five Cabins Doesn't Always Mean Five Double Bedrooms
One of the most important considerations when selecting a charter yacht is the actual sleeping arrangement.
A yacht advertised as having five cabins may sound ideal for five couples, but the type of beds, cabin locations and bathroom arrangements can make a significant difference.
Aquila 545 Southern Cross: Main-Deck Primary Suite and Flexible Family Accommodations
One of Southern Cross's standout features is its beautiful main-deck primary suite.
Rather than having all the bedrooms located in the hulls, the Aquila places its primary suite on the main living level.
For many guests, particularly grandparents or parents traveling with an extended family, this is an exceptionally appealing arrangement.
Southern Cross offers:
One main-deck primary suite
Three additional queen guest cabins
One separate bunk cabin with two berths
Five guest heads
The bunk cabin is accessed separately from the aft deck and works particularly well for children, teenagers or guests who are comfortable sleeping in bunks.
This gives larger families an excellent combination of private sleeping accommodations and generous shared living space.
However, Southern Cross does not have five traditional double-bed cabins.
If you're traveling with five adult couples, the bunk cabin may not be the arrangement everyone wants.
For more information, explore Southern Cross, our Aquila 545, or read our detailed Aquila 545 review.
Aventura 50 La Bella Vita and Yachti By Nature: Five Private Double-Bed Cabins
Our five-cabin Aventura 50s, La Bella Vita and Yachti By Nature, offer five private double-bed accommodations, making them especially appealing for five couples.
The four interior guest cabins have en-suite heads with separate showers.
The fifth cabin is accessed from the aft deck and also has its own head, although it is a wet-head configuration rather than a bathroom with a separate shower.
Although the cabins and bathrooms are not identical, all five couples have private double-bed accommodations.
For a group of ten adults, this is a significant advantage over a yacht that uses bunk beds or convertible salon seating to accommodate additional guests.
Aventura 50 Unwinding: Six Double Cabins for Twelve Guests
One of the most unusual yachts in our bareboat fleet is Unwinding, our specially configured six-cabin Aventura 50.
While La Bella Vita and Yachti By Nature offer five double-bed cabins for ten guests, Unwinding has six private double-bed cabins and six heads, accommodating up to twelve guests.
This makes Unwinding an especially attractive option for six couples traveling together, or larger families who need additional private accommodations.
Finding a bareboat power catamaran with six double-bed cabins is unusual, particularly in the 50-foot size range.
For groups of twelve, Unwinding offers the opportunity to travel together on one yacht rather than chartering two separate boats.
Of course, with twelve people aboard, it's especially important to consider how your group will use the communal areas, including the salon, cockpit and flybridge.
But for guests whose priority is accommodating six couples in private double-bed cabins, Unwinding is one of the most distinctive options in our fleet.
You can compare Unwinding with our other yachts in our BVI Power Catamaran Group Size Guide.
Aventura 56 Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired: Five Double Cabins With More Outdoor Living Space
Our Aventura 56s, Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired, offer five double-bed guest cabins, making them excellent options for five couples.
Their larger overall dimensions provide additional room for outdoor entertaining and relaxing.
For groups who want the five-double-cabin arrangement but prefer a larger yacht with more extensive outdoor living areas, the Aventura 56 is particularly appealing.
And its expansive aft beach club creates an entirely different experience at the stern of the yacht.
Interior Living Space: Where the Aquila 545 Stands Out
One of the biggest differences between these yachts is the design and use of interior living space.
The Aquila 545 has considerably more interior living space than the Aventura 50, and the difference is noticeable when you step aboard.
Southern Cross has an expansive salon with generous seating, large windows and a luxurious main-deck atmosphere.
The Aquila feels particularly spacious indoors, making it an excellent choice for guests who enjoy cooking aboard, gathering inside or simply having plenty of room to relax.
The Aventura 50 offers a comfortable, efficiently arranged salon that makes excellent use of the yacht's overall length.
The Aventura 56 provides a larger overall yacht with generous living areas, although its design places particular emphasis on outdoor living and the impressive aft beach club.
For guests who place the highest priority on spacious interior accommodations and a luxurious main-deck primary suite, the Aquila 545 is particularly attractive.
Walk-Through Salon vs Main-Deck Primary Suite
Another important distinction is how guests move between the salon and forward lounging areas.
The Aventura 50 features a walk-through salon, allowing guests to move directly from the aft cockpit through the main living area to the forward outdoor seating.
This creates convenient movement throughout the yacht.
The Aquila 545 has a different arrangement.
Because the main-deck primary suite occupies the forward portion of the yacht, there is no walk-through salon connecting directly to the bow.
Instead, guests reach the forward seating areas using the exterior walkways or flybridge access.
Some guests particularly appreciate the Aventura's walk-through design, while others prefer the Aquila's expansive salon and exceptional primary suite.
Neither layout is universally better. They simply offer different ways of enjoying the yacht.
The Aventura 56 Beach Club: A Standout Feature
If your group loves swimming, relaxing by the water and spending time outdoors, the Aventura 56's aft beach club may be one of the most appealing features of any yacht in this comparison.
Unlike a conventional stern arrangement, Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired offer a large, dedicated beach-club area that creates an expansive outdoor living space close to the water.
The broad aft platform makes the stern feel like an extension of the yacht's entertaining areas.
It's an ideal place to relax after a swim, enjoy the scenery or gather with friends while secured to a mooring ball.
For families, it also provides a wonderful area for enjoying the water together.
How Does It Compare With the Other Yachts?
Aquila 545 Southern Cross: Has a fixed aft platform, with the dinghy raised and lowered by a crane. It provides comfortable water access, but the platform does not lower hydraulically.
Aventura 50 La Bella Vita, Yachti By Nature and Unwinding: Offer hydraulic swim platforms that can be lowered toward the water, making them especially appealing for swimming and convenient dinghy handling.
Aventura 56 Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired: Feature the much larger aft beach-club and platform arrangement, creating a substantial outdoor living area dedicated to enjoying the water.
For guests who expect to spend much of their vacation swimming, snorkeling and relaxing at the stern, the Aventura 56 deserves serious consideration.
If you want to explore snorkeling and water-sports equipment for your charter, our BVI Provisioning Guide explains how to arrange additional equipment before departure.
Which Yacht Is Better for Five Couples?
For five adult couples, we would generally start by recommending La Bella Vita, Yachti By Nature, Don't Blink or Tropically Impaired.
All four offer five private double-bed cabins, allowing each couple to enjoy their own sleeping space.
The choice between them depends largely on how much living space your group wants and which outdoor areas appeal most.
Choose La Bella Vita or Yachti By Nature If:
You want five double-bed cabins in a spacious, efficiently designed power catamaran.
You appreciate the walk-through salon and hydraulic swim platform.
And you don't necessarily need the larger beach-club arrangement of the Aventura 56.
Choose Don't Blink or Tropically Impaired If:
You want five double-bed cabins but prefer a larger yacht with more extensive outdoor entertaining areas.
You particularly value the expansive aft beach club and platform.
And your group expects to spend considerable time swimming, relaxing and enjoying the water.
What About Southern Cross?
Southern Cross can accommodate ten guests, but the fifth cabin has bunk beds.
For five couples, we would generally recommend the Aventura models unless the group is comfortable with that sleeping arrangement and particularly prefers the Aquila's spacious interior and flybridge.
Which Yacht Is Better for Six Couples or Twelve Guests?
For six couples or a group of twelve, Unwinding is the clear choice among these yachts.
Its six private double-bed cabins and six heads make it possible for all twelve guests to travel together aboard one power catamaran.
This is an unusual arrangement in a yacht of approximately 50 feet.
Rather than splitting the group between two yachts, Unwinding allows everyone to enjoy the same itinerary and share the vacation together.
For larger groups, we always recommend thinking about both sleeping arrangements and shared living spaces.
A group of twelve will naturally use the salon, cockpit and flybridge differently from a group of six or eight.
But if having six private double-bed cabins is your priority, Unwinding is an excellent option.
Which Yacht Is Better for a Family of Ten?
For a multigenerational family, the Aquila 545 can be an outstanding choice.
The main-deck primary suite is particularly appealing for grandparents or parents, while the three queen cabins accommodate other adults and the bunk cabin works well for children or teenagers.
The Aquila's generous interior living space is another advantage for families who enjoy gathering inside.
The Aventura 50 and Aventura 56 are also excellent family options, particularly for groups with older children who would prefer double beds rather than bunks.
The Aventura 56's beach club may be especially attractive to families who love spending time swimming and relaxing near the water.
Ultimately, the right choice depends on the ages of the children, who is sharing cabins and which amenities your family values most.
Which Yacht Has the Best Flybridge?
All three models have spacious flybridges designed for enjoying the views and entertaining while cruising through the BVI.
Aquila 545 Southern Cross
Southern Cross has an exceptionally large flybridge with extensive entertaining amenities.
These include a wet bar, refrigerator, ice maker and electric grill.
It offers generous seating and convenient access to forward outdoor lounging areas.
For guests who enjoy spending time on the flybridge, this is one of the Aquila's standout features.
Aventura 50 La Bella Vita, Yachti By Nature and Unwinding
The Aventura 50 has a very generous flybridge for a yacht of its length.
It provides comfortable seating, excellent views and plenty of space for guests to relax together.
The layout makes efficient use of the yacht's overall size, providing generous outdoor entertaining areas despite its five- or six-cabin accommodations.
Aventura 56 Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired
The Aventura 56 offers a spacious flybridge that complements its larger overall design and extensive outdoor living areas.
For guests who love entertaining outdoors, the combination of flybridge, cockpit and beach club makes the Aventura 56 particularly appealing.
Our Recommendation
If the flybridge itself is one of your highest priorities, Southern Cross deserves serious consideration.
If you're looking for a yacht with multiple impressive outdoor entertaining areas, especially at water level, Don't Blink and Tropically Impaired are excellent options.
Which Yacht Is Easier to Handle on a Bareboat Charter?
All three models are substantial twin-engine power catamarans requiring appropriate boating experience.
Maneuvering in marinas, approaching fuel docks and picking up mooring balls require good judgment and familiarity with large vessels.
We wouldn't recommend choosing a yacht solely because you assume it will be easier to operate.
At Virgin Charter Yachts, we review the proposed skipper's boating experience before approving a bareboat charter.
Our standard yacht briefing generally lasts approximately 1½ to 2 hours.
Our Platinum yachts also require an included on-water checkout.
The checkout captain takes the yacht off G Dock at Nanny Cay, and the guest skipper demonstrates close-quarter maneuvering, including at the fuel dock.
The captain then travels aboard toward Norman Island, where the group demonstrates how to pick up and properly secure a mooring ball.
This is a team effort, and we want everyone involved to understand their role.
After the checkout, the captain returns independently and the guests continue their charter.
For more information, see our BVI Bareboat Charter Guide.
Cruising Performance and Fuel Costs
All three models are capable power catamarans well suited to exploring the British Virgin Islands.
For a typical seven-night charter, we wouldn't recommend making theoretical maximum speed or cruising range the primary deciding factor.
Most popular BVI destinations are relatively close together, and guests generally enjoy comfortable cruising speeds rather than operating at maximum performance.
Many of our powercat guests cruise in the 10–18 knot range, depending on the yacht and conditions.
Fuel consumption varies with cruising speed, sea conditions, generator use, loading and the distance traveled.
For most groups, the cabin layout, onboard amenities and overall comfort will have a greater impact on the vacation experience.
For help understanding the expenses involved, see our BVI Yacht Charter Costs Guide.
Which Yacht Is Best for a Seven-Night BVI Charter?
All three models are excellent options for a week exploring the islands.
A typical itinerary might include Norman Island, Cooper Island, Virgin Gorda, North Sound and Jost Van Dyke, depending on weather and your group's interests.
Because you're chartering a powercat, you have the flexibility to move comfortably between destinations while still enjoying plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing aboard.
We generally recommend a relaxed itinerary rather than trying to visit every island in one week.
For planning ideas, see our Seven-Night BVI Itinerary for First-Time Visitors.
And if you're deciding between overnight moorings and marina stays, our BVI Mooring Balls vs Marinas Guide explains the differences.
Aquila 545 vs Aventura 50 vs Aventura 56: Which Would We Recommend?
At Virgin Charter Yachts, we've been helping guests explore the British Virgin Islands since 1996.
One of the advantages of our multibrand fleet is that we can recommend the yacht that genuinely fits your group, rather than trying to make one layout work for everyone.
