Freedom is a Leopard 53 Powercat with an exceptionally practical layout for four couples, families and groups of up to eight guests. Four similarly sized double cabins, each with its own private en-suite head, mean everyone aboard has comfortable private accommodations without relying on additional sleeping areas.

For groups of four couples in particular, this is one of the reasons we like the Leopard 53 so much. There isn’t one couple relegated to a substantially smaller cabin or sharing a bathroom, making the layout very easy when accommodations need to be divided among a group.

Four Private Cabins with Four En-Suite Heads

Freedom accommodates a maximum of eight guests in four double cabins with four private en-suite heads.

The relatively similar size and configuration of the four cabins make this an excellent yacht for couples traveling together. Each couple has its own private sleeping space and bathroom, while families benefit from having four separate cabins distributed throughout the yacht.

For guests familiar with the popular Leopard 51 Powercat, there are a couple of important layout differences in the Leopard 53. The salon does not convert to an additional sleeping area and there is no forepeak berth, so eight guests is the maximum capacity aboard the Leopard 53.

For groups of eight or fewer, however, the result is a very straightforward layout: four couples, four double cabins and four private heads.

Spacious Salon & Full-Size Refrigerator

The main salon is bright and spacious, with large windows providing excellent visibility and natural light throughout the interior.

One of the design changes we particularly appreciate on the Leopard 53 is the full-size refrigerator/freezer. Guests familiar with the Leopard 51 may remember its refrigerated drawer configuration; the 53 replaces those drawers with a conventional full-size refrigerator/freezer.

It may sound like a small detail, but for guests provisioning a yacht for eight people for an entire week, we find that the additional convenience and organization of a full-size refrigerator/freezer is something they really appreciate.

The galley and salon create a comfortable central living area and connect easily with the yacht’s outdoor spaces, with doors leading out to both the aft deck and the bow. 

Flybridge & Outdoor Living

The large flybridge is one of the primary social spaces aboard Freedom, with plenty of room for guests to enjoy the trip while cruising between islands as well as relaxing together once the yacht is on a mooring.

Multiple seating and lounging areas throughout the yacht give a group of eight plenty of options during the day, whether everyone wants to gather together or spread out into smaller groups.

The combination of the flybridge, aft cockpit and forward outdoor areas gives Freedom plenty of usable exterior space for a week in the Caribbean.

Designed for BVI Cruising

The Leopard 53 combines comfortable accommodations with a layout that works particularly well for groups who want four true guest cabins rather than maximizing sleeping capacity through convertible spaces.

The elevated helm provides excellent visibility while underway, and the yacht’s spacious indoor and outdoor areas make her comfortable for moving between islands as well as spending extended time on a mooring.

An on-water checkout is included on the first day of every Virgin Charter Yachts bareboat charter to make sure guests are comfortable operating the yacht before beginning their week in the BVI.

Why We Recommend Freedom

We particularly like Freedom for four couples traveling together because the accommodations are so straightforward. Four similarly sized double cabins with four private en-suite heads mean there are no difficult decisions about who gets which cabin or who needs to share a bathroom.

Families and multigenerational groups also benefit from the four private cabin arrangement, spacious common areas and generous outdoor living space.
